Chapter 170: Ezra Dunster's Last Whereabouts
Ezra Dunster feels the danger in every sense of the word. His hands are shaking, and his thoughts are preoccupied with a lot of things.
He was holding the physical clock in his left hand while he was hurrying up. The future might be catching up with him very soon, and the time is ticking. The agents of the Renaissance Society must be able to arrive in this place almost immediately after him.
No one knows what is going on except for Gapsworth, and he made sure that his instructions are contained in a magical scroll for his safekeeping. As he was hurrying up to that very secret place, he checked the physical clock one more time and saw it glowing. The past and the future will meet very soon, and everything must not collide strong enough to alter the current equilibrium of space and time.
He arrived at this place according to plan, and now he must execute the chants necessary to hide the physical clock from the claws of the enemy, an enemy that he, himself, has created. This enemy is more cunning than himself, and just as capable as he is.
The place was dark and eerie, but there was no time to dread the surroundings. He took his Old Branch and uttered the chant.
"Lux splendida!"
His Old Branch glowed with the illumination that he needed. From where he is standing, he saw many statues encircling a rock, seemingly guarding it for something precious that the rock is keeping. He immediately knew he was in the right place.
It is not for long now. The time is now.
The clock is ticking.
