Chapter Thirty Four: The See of Dunster
This is the past. Long before our story began.
The Deacon stood before him, ready to testify of what have happened. He is determined to keep the secret, but he needs to face the Dean of the Tower. The House of Dunster will probably be deceived, but there is no other choice. Whatever happens after this, he has no idea.
"Can you say something about this rhetoric that you have decided to publish?" the Dean was looking straight to his eyes.
At this point, he is trying his best not to manifest any error. His excuses should be perfect. A lot is at stake and he cannot ruin it.
"It is a rhetoric," he said with no emotion. "Just a rhetoric."
The Dean nodded. "Just a rhetoric? Then what is this word hypothesis?"
"A hypothesis depends on the rhetoric," he said again without any trace of doubt. "It defines the ultimate expression of evidence."
Again, the Dean wasn't impressed. "An evidence for what? What goodness needs an evidence?"
"The See of Dunster needs it," he said. "We will need it."
"Do you have a prophecy to support this? The prophecy has been dark for centuries. There is no way to fight the See of Old."
"What tales have been told that escaped our misery? What do they have to punish us in this way?"
The Dean has fear in his eyes. "Are you talking of a new weapon? A new power? Do you have a gift of prophecy?"
He nodded. The secret was not kept for long.
