Chapter Thirty Five: Hope
"I have the thing you wanted," the ghost said. "I have no idea how long the music will play, but I am glad that you already found me. The Agreement is the last hope, and we can only hope to succeed. Your imagination is sacred."
Eliot looked around, in case there were people at his office in the Economics Institute, listening to what is being said. He replied.
"A strong imagination. Do you have it?"
The ghost smiled. Of course he have it. "The truth of the matter is can we contain the creatures? Can we make it in time?"
Eliot wasn't sure about that. But he trust that the Agreement will be fulfilled. Where are they, the orators of justice? Can a big imagination save the day?
"This edifice," the ghost said, after Eliot did not reply, "This is the home of the Music Hall. This is the very soul of our civilization. We thought treachery can never overcome it. We were wrong. So about the Agreement..."
"The Agreement will be fulfilled. I am so sure of that."
The ghost nodded. "Your spirit is daunting. But our ordeal will be long. It is wise to keep a sane mind when everything around us is going wrong. It will keep our thinking, knowing that we did the best way we could. That's what hope is. An opportunity to do something so well, with the expectation that something good will happen, that it doesn't matter anymore if we fail. Because by clinging to hope, we win by default. This is what our dreams are made of."
"We place our hope in the Agreement, then," Eliot said.
