Chapter 145: A Parallel Universe
"Do you think Ms. Jaqueline Rue will find what she needed to know?"
The Destiny Commission has been facing a Committee of the United States Senate for an inquiry into the discovery of alien life from a distant galaxy which might be the key in discovering as to when and how the world will end, and what will happen after that.
"I think she will find what she must do if we will all stop being too religious," the Commissioner said.
"Too religious?" the Ranking Member of the Committee said in disbelief. "Why must we face the future godless and gaze into it as if we have no faith in a merciful God?"
"Not at all. We are just trying to reconcile this parallel universe into the world of fantasy we are seeking, with several fictional elements involved."
"Outrageous," repeated the Ranking Member. "Do not take from us our constitutional right to profess a religion."
The Commissioner tried to evade the question by emphasizing the mandate of his good office. "The Destiny Commission has been enacted into law to allow us to determine the ultimate destiny of our people without any regard as to the beliefs we profess, only to diligently inquire as to the future, what was in there, and if indeed a parallel universe exists, in the eyes and scrutiny of scientific inquiry."
The Ranking Member stared in disbelief. "But this latest bulletin of yours," he tried waving the paper in front of the Commissioner. "It literally spoke of the nullity of God."
"I will have to disagree with you, Mr. Senator," the Commissioner said calmly. "This bulletin simply explains our destiny."
The Ranking Member was very disgusted.
"A destiny without God? This is simply preposterous."
