Chapter 123: Left in Time

"Do you mean to say that Gapsworth is pretty much acquanted with the Three Tales of Old? The three friends?"

The Time Traveller was shocked to hear it as well. The Historian kept on convincing herself of the veracity of this report, too, but even she herself cannot believe what she has found out. It is equally repulsive as much as it does not make sense.

"We have to hurry," she finally said. "Or we will not be able to return at the proper time."

"Is it really possible for Ezra Dunster to put himself into a book?"

The Historian nodded. She knows very well the answer to this. "All books are alive, Mr. Denver James. It is possible for a story to live inside us, as much as we live inside its pages. We carry in our hearts the imprint in which these books have impacted us, and in return we make them alive throughout a vivid imagination, how we act through the things around us, all faculties that we use to relate to others, and how we view the world around us."

"I see," Denver said. "Is it possible to love even more by reading books about monsters? I guess not, Jacqueline Rue."

Jacqueline smiled. "All books are rooted for the love of reading. Monsters can evoke fear, but love is stronger. It rests in the inclination that everything will turn out just fine. Goodness overcomes all obstacle. We know that because love is good. It is never corrupted."

"Right," Denver agreed. "So now Ezra Dunster has trapped himself inside a book to find Gapsworth? But how can he possibly do that?"

This last bit made Jacqueline nervous. It is unspeakable even by just thinking about it.

She took a deep breath, and then replied. "He used the Massachu."
