Chapter 312: The Development of the Chants

"I thought that all trees were whispering
to each other, passing news and plots along
in an unintelligible language;
and the branches swayed and groped
without any wind. They do say the trees
do actually move, and can surround
strangers and hem them.

"Do you still remember that fateful day, Ezra? When the House of Dunster received the revelation of the power of words? With the effectivity of its decibels entrusted to your care?"

"I do remember the cold evening breeze, and the chilling circumstances of the fright I sincerely felt. But I never kept it to myself, you know that very well within your heart. The decibels indeed propagated, and the miraculous nature of these words turn into the strength of the Chants. There is little effort that came from my part, and I claim no merit."

"But the Chants themselves seem to be obeying an outside power, too, away from the collective consensus of the authority of the Imperial Synod. Did they not feel this invisible influence interfering dramatically as the Bishophrics render it possible to contain this immense power?"

"I perfectly doubt it. Not even the Bishop of Old needs to announce all the vulnerabilities he felt surrounding the efficacy of the words that matches the eternal qualities of the Magical Twigs. We always appear strong when weakness is felt, and this is simply the law of war and power. Admission of weakness only exploit the adverse conditions in favor of the opponent."

"What do you mean? There seems to be a distinct suggestion by this most revealing statement."

"It is through your inner senses that you feel nature's power by heeding the corresponding decibel of accountability. At least this thing was written with certainty in the Book of Chants that I authored personally, and it is destined to become an inherent skill for all cases if accession to the See of Old, to be felt unconditionally within the same parameters of the strength of these predetermined meaning of these chosen words."

"And can the Cardinals feel it, too?"

"I have complete faith that they do, although not obviously. The eventual elevation of the Magical Twigs to a stronger Old Branches seals this appointed power to its intrinsic purpose, so that those who lead the several Bishoprics will become wiser, better, and more united in their common resolve for the shared future of the Empire."

"It did not happen as originally intended, wasn't it? There was an anomaly somewhere. It is only reasonable to suppose such matter. But why, exactly? Why did the Imperial Synod fail?

"Nobody can actually deter the eternal nature of the trees. It is inherently connected to the Word that created them. Creation cannot be defeated by its own preconceived power. That is never possible from the very beginning and violates the sanctity of creation in general."

"The House of Dunster has its own secrets, isn't it not? It is more prudent to assume that this same mystery is connected to the ancient secrets about the 'alleged' illusion of the decibels; that power is purely imagined, and nothing more. But to transfigure, that is a completely different matter altogether."
