Chapter 304: Epidemic

Back at the See of Dunster, there was a spreading epidemic. But the Tower of Taxonomy did not inform the public of the killer disease. Instead, the Scientific Council employed a systematic news blackout involving the "secretive health cases" of the escalating epidemic, with most of the patients being killed by the Quantum Rifle at will, as part of the government efforts to contain its rapid spread across the territorial boundaries that surrounds the authority of the cathedra.

It seems as though that everyday was a normal day in the midst of the trying times, and it appears as though there was no actual disease that was spreading across the population. But as more information was gathered by Currier Drive from the profiling of the dying patients, there was an identified pattern on who was the most vulnerable, and the ones who were more immune to the infection.

The Scientific Council have announced a government policy of continuous "executive check-up" and other health examination as may be needed for all mandatorily insured families, as part of the Council's policy to keep the "perfect order" of the population's state of well-being, and to ensure that no literary inclinations will result from any illness that can be contracted from the imagination of the mind and the "deliberate abuse" of humanly emotions.

Still, the government announces that, despite the presence of the many policies to the contrary, love is not to be considered an injury per se, but only highly discouraged if it was to be used without proper authorization coming from the leadership of the Scientific Council. There were several symptoms "for a new, but extremely managable, disease" that were publicized as a medical checklist, and anybody that will be found exhibiting those clinical manifestations who will not notify authorities at once are de facto breaking the law, and such persons will face a severe penalty once the deliberate act was proven guilty.

The patterns (as alleged) for the most vulnerable were ascertained to be both an inclination of interest and the natural hazards of the very nature of his occupation, with the most perilous behavior exhibited was found to be the faculty that allows the brain to be part of the rational solution and his optomization of the available choices. Those working for the most quantitative discipline of the social sciences (i.e. economics), the one established inquiry for the study of wealth, were most affected by the fatal strain of the "virus" as it was first discovered and reported.

The least vulnerable, however, were determined to be those working for the machineries, algorithms, and artificial intelligence. How and why this was the case has been the focal point of discussion within the ranks of the most capable Taxonomists who are familiar on the matter, but none of them was able to cone up with the most likely reasonable report of status, especially for the severe symptoms of the most deadly cases.

But the Scientific Council's gag order remains; nobody shall be allowed to leak the on-going efforts to contain the epidemic to the knowledge of the public. It was simply an emerging disease, and nothing serious; everything is under control and the perfect order is not failing.

As of this writing, President Algebra was informed of the latest situation from the ground, and he seems very pleased with the way the Tower of Taxonomy was handling the current affairs. Of course, he was too familiar with the symptoms of the Soulpox Disease, but he cannot speak about it in the open.

Our fates will ultinately happen, whether we like it or not.
