Chapter 258: The Background Investigation of Readers

The appointment of Readers has always been a part of the rich and diverse culture of the Literary Committee, which dates back even before the two-state solution offered by the enlightened forefathers that has deeply enriched the fabric (and influence) of the Renaissance Society, even more crucial than the many stories that has been told regarding the Great Fables and the Three Friends of Old that adore the shelves of The Lead Custodian and Companions of the Greatest Library that has inspired countless of generations of Anti-Plagiarists, Proctors, Illustrators, and the lesser known Neyorks, including their Orbs of Fire.

When the Government of the Literary Committee appoints an official Reader, there is usually a preponderance of the merits in a chain of events that precede the writing of that Agreement. This Agreement may be concurred in by at least Five Members of the Quorum of the Literary Committee, either proposed by the incumbent Chairman, or a Ranking Member, in order to be written in the Expository Blotter. The power of the Blotter then binds the Reader into a magical obligatory motion of nature and events, making sure that the Agreement will be fulfilled in its own timing and appointed time.

But literature is not a very safe place to be, as we learn from the solemn habit of reading the many books of authors with astounding popularity, authors adorned with many accolades, authors with a solid cult following and authors with underrated talent. This fact positions itself in the intricacies of the instrument and makes an exposition within the Agreement itself that binds its contents into obedience to the many rules that govern a written story, with all the elements fulfilled and the elaborate command of the grammar of language, which then satisfies the employability of the suspension of disbelief, for instance.

It may be likened to a pure prophecy, although an Agreement is a "class of its own," which means that it is quite similar to the properties of the rules followed by the Ancient Language of Prophenese, but still very different. One of the differences noted in the utility of an Agreement is that it is very much dependent on the capabilities of the Reader to decipher its cryptic meanings, while a Prophenese does not take into account who needs to interpret its contents, and can be competently done by anybody with the right skills and training.

For this reason, the background of the several Readers ever since the appointment of the very first one, Marcus Rodenthor, who has successfully read the Agreement on the Three Friends of Old, became a primordial concern of the Presidium of the Literary Committee, some of those Agreements even resulting to a shameful defeat, while the rest strengthened the common resolve to the duties appointed to these glorious Readers.

Needless to say, the Presidium has adopted measures to safeguard the individual backgrounds of those to be appointed with the high duty of reading an Agreement, "to ensure that its success becomes the primary obligation of those who have made such an Agreement, so that by the use of tremendous skill of the Reader, such Agreement fulfills the many roles of the heroes that such instrument attaches itself to, with its morals and themes incorporated in the hopes and dreams to be created by the consequence of its eventual reading."

Agreements, by then, has become so customary that the Presidium has later on realized that the signing of such instrument must be governed by a new set of omnibus rules to protect it from the greed of abuse. Those who can wield the Magical Twigs, without any regard to the sincerity of their intentions, has found it entertaining to execute Agreements here and there, which later on gave rise to a secret fraternal organization called the "Mighty Playwrights."
